Our Top Ten Phoenix Moving Tips
The best part of moving to a new place is actually being in the new place — not the moving itself. No one likes to move. It’s time consuming, expensive, and stressful. The more you have to move or the farther away you move, the more time consuming, expensive and stressful the whole process is.
Here are our top Phoenix moving tips to make the whole process a little easier, whether you are moving within Arizona or you are making a more long-distance move:
1. Hire Help
Hiring movers is the best way to make your move easy and stress-free. You can hire Phoenix movers to do everything including the moving and storage, where needed. If you have a smaller budget, you can hire help to load and unload the truck — especially useful for getting help with oversized furniture.
2. Move in the Middle of the Week
Most people move on the weekend. If you go in the middle of the week, you’ll save money on the truck (if you do it yourself) or on the movers (if you hire help). You’ll also have less hassle with booking services.
3. Sleep Well the Night Before
Even if hire help, you’ll need to be well-rested to oversee your move. However, if you plan to do all the loading and unloading yourself, you’ll need the extra sleep even more. Make sure you are well-rested.
4. Buy or Rent a Dolly
If you choose to move everything yourself, having a dolly on hand will be invaluable. You can load up several boxes at once and move them all easily and quickly. If you don’t have a dolly, buy or rent one.
5. Allow Plenty of Time to Load
Loading the truck will likely take a lot more time than unloading the truck. You have to figure out how to get everything inside so that it fits well. When you get to the new place, you just have to take it out. Plan for more time on the loading end. (You’ll also need to plan more time for loading if you hire movers. Just schedule accordingly.)
6. Pack Furniture Last
When you load the truck, put your furniture in last. That way, the furniture will be the first thing out of the truck when you get to the new place and you can just put it where you want it to go. You’ll feel like you already have half the “unpacking” done as a result.
7. Make a Floor Plan
Sketch a floor plan for where the furniture will go in your new home. When you get there, you can put the furniture exactly where it needs to go. After that, you’ll just have to unpack boxes to be totally moved in.
8. Pre-Stock Beverages
Put some beverages in the refrigerator at your new place either the morning of the move or the night before. That way, you will have cold, fresh drinks ready when you get there and are hot and sweaty from the move. Alternately, you will have them ready for your movers, who will appreciate the kindness.
9. Fill Up at the Gas Station
If you are renting your own truck, get your gas at the gas station instead of paying for it at the rental company. You’ll pay much, much more for the gas if you choose to refuel with the rental company.
10. Do It All in One Day
Leaving items to pick up or move until the following day will only add to your to do list and make you feel more stressed out. Get everything done in one day for a local move, or hire a mover to handle a long-distance move.
